Overview
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) yearly conducts Junior Hindi Translator (JHT) exams. It recruits candidates from all over India for the post of Junior Hindi Translator, Hindi Pradhyapak, Senior Translator, and Junior Translator. The exam pattern of this SSC JHT 2023 Exam is divided into two stages: Tier 1 and Tier 2. In these two phases, the Tier 1 part is a computer-based exam that consists of objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQ). It is a qualifying type paper. Candidates who score more than the cutoff marks in Tier 1 will be advanced to take the Tier 2 paper. Tier 2 consists of a descriptive paper, i.e., pen, and a paper-based exam. JHT Age Limit
The minimum age for a candidate to apply for the JHT 2023 Exam is 18 years, and the maximum age is 30 years. Therefore, candidates applying for this exam must have been born between 1st January 1993 and 1st January 2005 (both dates inclusive) to be eligible. However, relaxation on the upper age limit will apply to reserved categories as per government regulations. The category-wise age relaxations are mentioned in the table below.

Educational Qualification
The eligibility criteria for applying to SSC JHT 2023 Exam differ for different posts. However:
- The applicant must have a Master’s degree from a centrally recognized university if he/ she does not have professional certification or experience in Hindi-English translation.
- Or, the applicant must have studied English/ Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject at the UG or PG degree level.
- The applicant should complete a Master’s degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with English medium and Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level.

Nationality / Citizenship
The applicants should possess any of the criteria mentioned below to be eligible for the SSC JHT 2023 Exam.
- An Indian Citizen.
- A subject of Bhutan or Nepal.
- A Tibetan refugee residing permanently in India since before 1st January 1962.
- Indians migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African Countries and settled permanently in India.

SSC JHT Exam Application
Candidates can start filing the application form from 22nd August 2023. The application form is not available yet. Here is the detailed information regarding the application process mentioned below.
Application fees
The cost for applying for SSC JHT 2023 is fixed at only Rs. 100. However, SC, ST, PWD, and women applicants are exempted from any kind of fee to be paid to appear for the exam.

The candidature will only be accepted if payment is completed before the application closing date. Candidates can make payments through online and offline methods. In the case of online mode, Credit Cards, Debit Cards, Net Banking, and UPI method can be used. For the offline mode, e-challan is the only option to make payment.
Application Steps
Candidates can follow the below-mentioned steps to fill up the JHT 2023 application.
- First, a candidate needs to go to the official website of the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and click on the ‘Apply’ section.
- Candidates who have already registered their information on the SSC website are not required to register again. However, the candidates who are not registered yet, need to register on the portal first with the necessary information and then start applying for the exam.
- Candidates need to keep ready the necessary documents like mark sheet, identity proof, address proof, etc. while filling up the application fee.
- In the next stage, the candidates have to upload their scanned photograph and signature in the prescribed format.
- Finally, the candidates need to submit the application by paying the application fee by online or offline method.
SSC JHT Exam 2023 Admit Card
SSC JHT admit card will be available on the official regional websites of the organizing body, i.e. the Commission itself. The Commission issues separate admit cards for the two phases. Aspirants can download the e-admit cards usually at least 7 days before the exams by logging in to their account on the website with their login credentials, viz. Registration ID and Password. Candidates need to carry an original photo ID proof along with the hard copy of their admit card to the examination center.

Candidates need to verify all those details before going to the exam venue. In addition to the admit card, the candidates must carry the following documents to the exam center. Those are as follows.
- Two (2) recent passport-size color photos.
- Original copy of valid photo ID proof. The date of birth mentioned on the admit must be the same as printed on the photo ID. The photo ID can be a PAN Card/ Aadhaar Card/ Voter Card/ School/ College ID Card/ Driving License/ Passport/ Employer ID Card (Govt/ PSU/ Private)/ Ex-servicemen Discharge Book by the Ministry of Defence/ Any other photo ID issued by the State or Central Govt.
How to download SSC JHT Admit Card?
Candidates can download their admit cards around 7 days before the exam (Paper-I or Paper-II) by following the steps below.
- First, the candidate has to go to the official regional website of the SSC. The candidate needs to scroll down to check all the regional websites of the SSC. When the admit card is available on the website, candidates need to go to the relevant regional website to download it.
- Next, the candidate needs to click on the link displayed as “Download Admit Card” for the SSC JHT 2023 Exam.
- After that, a login page will open. Here, candidates need to enter the login details, viz. Registration No. and Date of Birth.
- Finally, the candidate will get admit card for SSC JHT 2023 Exam on the screen. The candidate needs to download and take a printout of it for future convenience.

SSC JHT Exam 2023 Exam Pattern
The SSC JHT 2023 is a two-tiered examination. Tier 1 is a computer-based online exam consisting of multiple-choice questions. However, Tier 2 is a traditional writing exam with a pen and paper consisting of descriptive questions. Admits for the two phases are issued separately.

Tier 1 Exam Pattern
- It checks on the candidate’s knowledge and overall command of English and Hindi language and literature.
- It will contain 100 MCQs in the General Hindi section and another 100 in the General English section.
- 1 mark will be awarded for every correct answer.
- The penalty for each wrong answer is 0.25 marks.
- The standard of the questions will be of graduation level.
- The duration of the exam is 2 hours or 120 minutes. There will be 40 minutes of added time for candidates with physical disabilities.

If the applicant clears the Tier 1 exam, then only he/she will be considered eligible to take the Tier 2 exam. However, the final merit list is prepared to take the performances in both papers into consideration. This means the final score of the candidate is the sum of the marks scored in Tier 1 exam and the marks scored in the Tier 2 exam.
Tier 2 Exam Pattern
- This part assesses and weigh the examinee’s expertise in bidirectional translation between Hindi and English.
- In this section, applicants have to write 4 passages, which will be of the following types:
- English to Hindi Translation
- Hindi to English Translation
- Hindi essay writing
- English essay writing
- There is no distinguished marking system here, as the questions demand elaborate answers. The total marks are 200.
- There is also no negative marking, as expected in a descriptive paper.

SSC JHT Exam 2023 Cutoffs
The candidates, who will be able to score equal or more marks than the cutoff marks mentioned by the SSC in Tier 1 exam, will be eligible to take the Tier 2 exam. Similarly, candidates who will qualify after the Tier 2 part will be shortlisted for the document verification process. The candidates selected in the SSC JHT 2023 Exam will receive payment as per the standard pay level. The amount will be calculated after considering all the reductions and allowances, according to the official pay commission.
