The exam pattern is the same for Management Trainees and Clerks as per the official notification. However, interested candidates can apply for both posts separately. The exam happens in two different shifts on the same day.
Focusing on exam patterns and syllabus will help the aspirants to create a better study timetable and allocate their time accordingly. Interestingly, many of the banks also follow a similar exam pattern and syllabus. Hence it will be easy for the aspirants to give their shot on other government bank exams too.

The Nainital Bank is a scheduled commercial bank founded in the year 1922. The Bank of Baroda (BOB) has a shareholding of 98.6% with the bank. The bank has its location in five states – Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

The Nainital Bank Exam Pattern
The exam pattern for the previous year’s PO exam is not to be confused with the MTs. In this year’s notification, the bank has announced a single exam pattern for both MTs (Management Trainees) and Clerks. The exam pattern is designed such that candidates have a wide knowledge of different basic concepts. Thus, there are sectional cut-offs for each subject or topic so that the candidates do not skip any topic on choice.
- There will be 200 objective questions to be answered for 200 marks. Each carries one mark.’
- Each objective question will be provided with five different choices.
- There is a penalty of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer.
- If the candidate leaves a question unanswered, no marks will be detected.
- The exam is conducted for 145 minutes i.e., 2 hours and 25 minutes.
- The medium of examination is only in English.

Each section is to be solved within the given time limit. The bank would take full responsibility in case of any technical issue faced during the exam. Conducting a re-exam is the absolute choice of the exam conducting body.
Process of arriving at scores –
- Each correct answer carries one mark and the wrong answer carries 0.25 negative marks
- The difficulty of the question paper and the number of candidates who appeared are considered while arriving at the final cut-off.
- The online scores and final scores are reported with decimal points up to two digits
Cut-off marks for the Nainital Bank Exam –
The cut-off will be separately allotted for both exams. The sectional cut-off is there for each subject. The questions from each section are to be solved within the given time limit.
This, along with the final personal interview score is calculated for the final merit list. There is no detailed information about the interview pattern.

Q1. Is certification necessary to prove my Computer Knowledge?
No. Computer as a subject till 10th would be more than sufficient. You just have to clear the sectional cut-off for Computer Knowledge in the online test.
Q2. How many candidates are selected for the interview process?
There is no fixed number of candidates to be selected for the interview process. Usually, the banks select three times the candidates needed to fill the vacancy.
Q3. Can we take both the exams on the same day?
Yes. The exam for MT (Management Trainee) and Clerk will happen on the same day in different shifts. Hence, you can apply for both posts. The application fee has to be paid separately for MT and Clerk.
Q4. What happens if a candidate clears the projected cut-off?
The candidate will be called for a personal interview and document verification
Q5. Is there a descriptive paper to be written in this exam?
No. The preliminary selection process consists of an online objective test. The selected candidates are called for a personal interview.
Q6. Can we use the same recommended books for other bank exams?
Yes, the recommended materials holds good for most of the bank exams.
Q7. What are the eligibility criteria?
The candidates must be of Indian nationality. Their age limit must be within 21-28 as of March 31st, 2021. They must have a graduation or post-graduation degree with 50% or more qualifying marks (from a recognized University or College). Basic computer knowledge is necessary. Candidates having previous experience in banking or NBFC or financial sectors are preferred.
