RBI Selection Process

Phase I: Objective Written Examination

The objective written examination is a two-hour exam with 200 questions. A student receives a +1 mark for each correct answer. A -0.25 penalty for each incorrect response. There is no penalty for failing to attempt questions. The Tier – 1 examination score is not counted into the final score, so it is a qualifying examination.

Phase II: Online Written Examination ( Objective & Subjective )

This phase consists of three different question papers. It is Economic and Social Issues, English (Writing Skills). And an optional choice between Finance and Management, Economics, and Statistics.

Phase III: Interviews

This stage includes an interview with a panel of 4-5 bureaucrats/psychologists. The interview is based on human resources. And a candidate’s general perception of the nation, the government. And knowledge of the Indian and international banking systems. The interview is 50 points.

Educational Qualifications (As of 1st Jan. 2021):RBI Grade B Officers are divided into three categories, each with its own set of educational requirements. Below are the specifics of the required education certification.

Officers in Grade ‘B’ (DR) – (General)

  • A minimum of 60% in any discipline/equivalent technical or professional certification (50 % for SC/ST/PwBD applicants).

  • Post-Graduation / Equivalent technical qualification with a minimum of 55 % in all semesters/years (pass marks for SC/ST/PwBD applicants).

Officers in Grade ‘B’ (DR) – DEPR

  • A Master’s degree in Economics, Econometrics, Quantitative Economics, Mathematical Economics, Integrated Economics. Course/ Finance from a recognized Indian or international university/institute, with a minimum grade of 55 % across all semesters/years.

  • A minimum of 55 % of all semesters/years is required for a PGDM/ MBA Finance. It must be from a recognized Indian or foreign university/institute.

Officers in Grade ‘B’ (DR) – DSIM A minimum of 55 % of all semesters/years is required for a Master’s Degree in Statistics/ Mathematical Statistics/ Mathematical Economics/ Econometrics. Statistics & Informatics from IIT-Kharagpur/ Applied Statistics & Informatics from IIT-Bombay.

Nationality / Citizenship of Applicants

A candidate must be an Indian citizen to apply for RBI Grade B Officer Examination.
